Golf in Tasmania

Tasmania has some of the country’s greenest greens and roughest roughs. Try the seaside links on King Island or the eighth hole at Tasman Club near Port Arthur where 100-metre sea-cliffs and pounding waves swallow up a wayward drive.

Three Tasmanian golf courses – Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links, Tasmania Golf Club and Royal Hobart – make the top 100 in Australian Golf Digest’s rankings. There are public-access golf courses in Hobart and Launceston and more than 80 club courses welcome visiting members.

The first golf course in Australia was established in Tasmania. Scottish settlers created a golf course at Bothwell in midland Tasmania in the early 1800s. The golf course is still in use. Also at Bothwell is the Australasian Golf Museum.
