New-look Tasmanian Certificate of Education will boost basic skills

14 February 2007

A new-look Tasmanian Certificate of Education is to be introduced. Students will be required to reach set standards of achievement in key areas including literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.

The chairman of the Tasmanian Qualifications Authority, Tim Doe, said today that the introduction of the new-look senior secondary qualification is intended to send a clear message that reaching standards in basic skills was important for the future of the young and the future of Tasmania.

The first students to gain the new certificate will be those who start Year 11 in 2008.
