Dianne Kerr – Sydney girl makes Launceston home

Dianne Kerr, originally from Sydney, has lived on the north coast of NSW and in Europe, but now cannot imagine living anywhere other than Tasmania.

Based in Launceston, she runs a business helping other sea-changers and visitors get oriented and settled in that part of Tasmania.

Her first experience of Tasmania was in the middle of a frosty winter in 1987. She had no contacts but arrived for a six-month teaching position and spent every weekend exploring the island. “Beautiful,” she thought. “Every bend of the road opens a new and fantastic view.”

After marrying a German in 1995, they lived, worked and travelled extensively throughout Europe. “Even though Europe is scenic,” she says, “there was a clear contrast with the ease of our lifestyle in Tasmania.”

In 2001 she worked in a school in Port Macquarie, NSW – just five minutes’ walk to the beach. However, a holiday to Tasmania reminded the family (which by now included two children) that there was nowhere else with the easy pace of life of Launceston.

“Tasmania is the most friendly, relaxed and interesting place to live,” says Dianne. “I love living here and cannot imagine moving anywhere else. We enjoy our lives.”
